Correct Golf Attire By: Suta Chabok
Almost all sports require the participants to wear certain clothes and in this golf is no different. With the social status that golf has it is essential that the right style and the best quality clothes are purchased. Of course every golf course has its own set of dress guidelines, but knowing what are the standard guidelines can help you have a pleasurable experience. Remember, many golf courses will refuse to allow you to play if you are not dressed appropriately. This is not only embarrassing but can be an awkward problem if you are barred from playing simply because there was some miscommunication regarding clothes to be worn.
Several aspects of male attire is not permitted on any golf course they try to play at. Collarless or sleeveless shirts are below par on the golf course. Another area that is a no-no is the use of running pants and shoes that have metal studs. Avoid wearing clothes with repulsive logos or obscene messages on them. Men in addition to women are also forbidden to wear denim of any kind or foot ware that can be considered a sandal.
Men can wear shorts however or fitted pants and any shirt they wear must have a collar plus foot ware must consist of sports or golfing shoes. Golf shoes must only have the soft spikes fitted because if a golfer wears shoes with metal spikes the will be asked to leave as they make extra work for the groundsman with the damage the bring. Your shirts can either have long or short sleeves and there is no problem with turtlenecks or pullover sweaters. Trainer socks cannot be worn - they must be of normal length and not contain garish logos so plain is better.
If you are a woman, you are still expected to wear a fitted shirt with either shorts or skirt. Jeans, shorts or otherwise are not allowed neither are full length pants either. The length of the skirt or short is important for women and they have to ensure that it is not more than 5 inches above the knee. Although it not uncommon for a golf course to insist that the length of shorts and shirts is even longer. A woman's shirt must also have a collar and once again a v-neck style sweater is allowed.
However, a woman can wear a shirt that is completely sleeveless or have short sleeved (providing it has a collar). As far as socks are concerned, they must be ankle length and their shoes the same conditions as a man but as far as head wear is concerned - a hat or visor is OK. Socks must be a solid color, with minimal logos and tasteful designs. It is also important to understand that anyone you take with you to a golf course must also have appropriate attire. As all golf courses are guided by their typical dress code, the best thing to do is to do a prior check through their website or a simple call to them, to check the rules and obligations.
